The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has informed the Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) that the nomination of Daisy Nakalyango for the first Summer Youth Olympic Games (YOG) from 14th to 26th of August 2010 in Singapore could not be accepted, because Nakalyango - age group 1994 - is too young. After having consulted the Badminton World Federation (BWF) UBA was allowed to replace Nakalyango by Shamim Bangi.

National coach Simon Mugabi felt very sorry for Daisy because she was preparing since August 2009.

Apart from Shamim there are only two other African ladies - Fatima Azeez (Nigeria) and Kate Foo Kune (Mauritius) - to take part in this major multi sport event for youth between the ages of 14 – 18 years old.

The YOG will provide international competition for the worlds youth. It will also provide cultural, social and educational experiences for competing athletes. The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games is hosting 27 sports, 201 events and these will attract a maximum of 3594 athletes.

Badminton is one of the YOG sports for Singapore 2010 with a maximum of 64 players qualifying. The competition will be a singles competition for men (32) and women (32). The competition format is in two stages – the first a round robin format in pools of four leading into a knockout stage.
