Bangi Shamim lost her first two matches in pool G versus Fabienne Deprez (Germany) 10-21 , 16-21, and versus Lene Clausen (Denmark) 8-21, 7-21.

Her last match versus Aishath Afnaan Rasheed is scheduled for Monday, 20:50 hrs Singapore Time.

Bangi won her last match vs. Aishath Afnaan Rasheed (Maldives) 19-21, 21-8, 21-12.
Only the winner of the group, Lene Clausen, is qualified for the quarter finals.

The Ugandan team is back from the 2010 Africa Under 15 Chamionships in Mauritius with some bronze medals in their pockets. Like in Pretoria 2007 and in Cairo 2008 the team event ended for the Ugandans after the semi-finals. Brenda Awori (women singles and women doubles), Brenda Mugabi (women doubles and mixed doubles) and Daniel Mihigo (mixed doubles) won bronze medals in the individual events.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has informed the Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) that the nomination of Daisy Nakalyango for the first Summer Youth Olympic Games (YOG) from 14th to 26th of August 2010 in Singapore could not be accepted, because Nakalyango - age group 1994 - is too young. After having consulted the Badminton World Federation (BWF) UBA was allowed to replace Nakalyango by Shamim Bangi.

Uganda Badminton Association will take part in the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games. The team will consist of Edwin Ekiring, Wilson Tukirye, Abraham Wogute and Brian Ssuna (men) and Gloria Najjuka, Margaret Nankabirwa, Shamim Bangi and Daisy Nakalyango (women). They will be accompanied by Ritah Namusisi and head coach Simon Mugabi.

Uganda's Harriet Nattabi passed the world body WBF high level umpires course in Malaysia to step up her chances of officiating at the Olympics. Nattabi passed both the theory and practical examinations at the one week hands on course conducted alongside the badminton world junior championship. “She has been accredited as a world umpire,” said federation official Simon Mugabi. |
