Airbadminton makes its way into USSSA games
In an effort to make Airbadminton, popular as the main stream badminton, Uganda badminton Association has partnered with Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA). "Badminton is now among the sports activities that are being examined as a PE Sport, under the Uganda National Education Board, and therefore as the National Governing body it is our obligation to technically facilitate the schools in this area of growth so that schools adopt the sport for both academic and recreation purposes." CEO Uganda Badminton Association, Simon Mugabi.
The partnership has seen badminton added on as an extra activity to be taught/tutored to the attendees of the capacity building programs that are organised by USSSA. The attendees are usually P.E Teachers, Headteachers, Coaches and other general stakeholders in schools Sports development. Targeting such decision makers will definitely give Uganda badminton association mileage in the development and growth of the sport.
Alfred Patrick Okanya, Head of Capacity Building, “We thank Uganda Badminton Association, for reaching out and partnering with us to grow and develop the sport of badminton / Airbadminton in schools. Currently, we’re focusing on seven key areas of capacity building: Coaching, Refereeing, Media, First Aid and Injury Management, Safeguarding, Administration and Management".
Uganda Badminton Association has so far participated in two capacity building programs including one in Kampala with sports administrators, from over 10 districts around kampala, and the latest activity being in Mbarara district hosted at Ntale School, with over 40 teachers from all over the region with both primary and secondary teachers.
