    Growing Up Years

As a child, I lived in a world of sports. I played many sports such as football, basketball, handball and volleyball in my childhood, but I didn’t know about badminton at that time.

Social life involved taking on a role in community duties. For example, mobilising children, youth, and women’s organisations to hold sports competitions at the community level, as well as training young people to be sports promoters.

I grew up in a close-knit community where family and teamwork were always prioritised. From a poor rural area, I came to Oranjemund at the age of 15 to attend high school.

I first saw badminton in 2018 when I moved to Oranjemund. One day I joined my friends for a “Friend and I” competition and that’s where I got to experience badminton first. It struck me as a sport which was fun and helped me make new friends.
